The Reproduction of Religion in Secular Societies

RelSec is an Emmy Noether Junior Research Group funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) (funding period 2024–2030) that examines the role and reproduction of religion in secular societies. Four case studies will investigate different areas of society: institutions of secondary socialisation, bureaucratic and administrative clusters, cultural heritage assemblages, and academia. The studies are being conducted in Germany, the Netherlands and England.

The research group is led by Prof. Dr Carmen Becker at the Institute for the Study of Religion at Leibniz University. The case studies are being carried out by Syed Gohar Ali Shah, Julia Oppermann, Diva Saraswati Setyoputri and Carmen Becker.
