Leibniz Talents Award

Julia Becker received the Leibniz Talents award for her master's thesis. Congratulations!

Our Student Julia Becker was awarded the Leibniz Talents Prize for her remarkable master’s thesis „Das Weltreligionenparadigma im Werte und Normen Unterricht: Eine kritische Analyse ausgewählter Schulbücher“ (eng.: „The World Religions Paradigm in the school subject Values and Norms: A critical analysis of selected schoolbooks). She received the award in the category 1 for exceptional academic achievements.

In her master's thesis, Julia Becker analysed a chapter of a current textbook for the subject of values and norms and investigated whether the visual and content design of the material is influenced by the world religions paradigm. She also analysed the representation of religion/s in teaching materials using critical discourse analysis.

Through her analysis, she came to the conclusion that the representations are not only extremely one-sided and factually inaccurate, but that the depicted image of religion/s - based on the world religion paradigm - is also characterised by a Western and denominational-Christian internal perspective.

Through her work, Julia Becker has made an important contribution to showing how powerful the world religions paradigm still is.

Many thanks for this and congratulations on the Leibniz Talents Prize!
