Contents and Goals
In contrast to traditional religious studies programmes, which tend to focus on religious practice in religious communities, this programme looks at the current negotiation of religion in different areas of the public sphere in a European perspective. This concerns the discourse on "religion" in general (e.g. exemptions for "religion" in social spheres) as well as discourses on individual religions (e.g. Christianity as "cultural heritage", Islam as a "challenge", Buddhism as a "modern philosophy of life").
Our programme prepares students for work in professional environments that deal with these dynamics in multicultural, democratically constituted societies. They are trained to analyse different conflict constellations, to deal with them in a confident and constructive manner and to develop sustainable, solution-oriented strategies.
