Prof. Russell T. McCutcheon: Public guest lecture as part of the seminar "Debating the Secular"

Professor Russell T. McCutcheon is currently teaching for the department of religious studies at the University of Alabama USA.  His areas of interest include the relations between the classification "religion" and the rise of the nation-state, theories of religion, and secularism. In the context of the seminar "Debating the Secular", we're exploring, among other things, the question of the extent to which Western categories such as "religion" and "secularity" are suitable as analytical concepts for global, cross-cultural research. There is a lively debate on this in the Study of Religion and related disciplines. To discuss the issue, we have invited Prof. Russell T. McCutcheon who represent a particular position in the debate. The public guest lecture will take place online via Webex.
